Navajo Codetalker Thomas H. Begay at Gallup PSS meeting 9/17/17

Navajo Codetalker, linguist, and actor, Thomas H. Begay, with assistance from his eldest son, Ronald, spoke at the September 17, 2017 meeting of Gallup's Plateau Sciences Society, relating matters such as stories from his military service, his love of language, acting in "Legends From the Sky".  Mr. Begay also appears on p.42 of the current issue of "Indian" the publication of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI).

Mr. Begay, a 5th Marines Navajo Code Talker, wrote the foreword for the book, "Voices of Victory, and was a guest at Author Catherine Ritch’s home for several Veteran’s Day events in her home state of NC during November of 2015. He spoke and appeared at a number of 2016 Veteran’s Day events and presentations in Washington, D.C., and was publicly recognized in D.C. by President Barack Obama during Native American Month. At age 94, he still walked the 4-mile parade route of the 2017 Fiesta Bowl Parade, an event in which he appears annually.

KGLP's 25th Year - 1st Station Manager with Current 1

In celebrating KGLP's 25th year of broadcast, with our Silver Anniversary in September 2017, current KGLP Station Manager Rachel Kaub speaks by phone with KGLP's first Station Manager, Frank Sundram, who helped get the station on the air in September of 1992.  Frank describes the early days of KGLP, his experiences with the people of the Gallup area, and how important that time was in his life.

Gallup NM NorthFest planned for September 15 2017

Planners of the upcoming September 15, 2017 "North Fest" celebration at UNM-Gallup's North Campus, 425 North 7th Street, Northwest of the corner of West Maloney and 7th, talk about what to expect - the event includes participation by several local and regional organizations:

Celebrate Gallup's Northside community at the first annual "NorthFest" on Friday, September 15th from 10am - 3pm at UNM-Gallup North Campus. 

 

Join gallupARTS , UNM-Gallup's North Campus , ATD-Fourth World and the NM Aging and Long-term Services Department to create art, make books, share stories, break bread, decorate the street and have fun with the entire family. 

 

This event is free and open to the public, and is being generously sponsored by District 1 Councilor Linda Garcia.

8/31/17 Groundbreaking for Gallup Solar Farm project
